Our history

Our history has a tight bond with Italy, the nation that witnessed our birth and growth. Our roots are firmly embedded in a solid past and in values that have the merit of still being relevant today: passion and innovation. And this is why we have never stopped growing. Ours is the story of a company, but it is also the story of a family: a stage race with exhausting climbs and exciting sprint finishes, but above all so many exhilarating successes and exceptional team members.

1957-1966

The Italian economy takes off and it is a period of economic boom. The Sputnik goes into orbit and Yuri Gagarin is the first man in space. The world seems to be spinning faster: Livio Berruti runs fast too at the Rome Olympics, not to mention Wilma Rudolph winning three gold medals in the sprints in athletics. It is the Pop Art period. America elects John Kennedy, arrests Martin Luther King and watches in admiration as Cassius Clay dances around the ring. DNA is discovered in the field of medicine and the laser is invented in science. Italy dreams along to Federico Fellini’s “La dolce vita”, Domenico Modugno’s “Nel blu dipinto di blu”, “Diana” by Paul Anka and songs by the Beatles. The quiz era also begins with the TV programme “Lascia o raddoppia”.

Conquering space. Boom!

Giorgio Squinzi - Rodolfo’s son - then graduating in Chemistry at Milan University, contributes to the Company’s success by inventing a range of innovative products on an international levelADESILEX L1 is invented, an alcohol-based adhesive for linoleum, which means that installers no longer need to carry bags full of sand to the installation area at the start of each job to ballast joints. ADESILEX P5 also comes off, a bituminous solvent adhesive for tiled floors, which are manufactured and marketed in Italy under the brand names of Prealino and Preaflex, followed by its successor ADESILEX P7, an extremely quick-setting elastomeric product.

Next comes ADESILEX P9, a super adhesive for ceramic tiles which can even be used only half-a-day after being mixed. Not to mention its successor, his majesty ADESILEX P9 casein-free: a milestone in ceramic tile installation, still widely used and admired around the world for its adhesive properties and ease of usage. Mapei Research further develops PIANODUR - a self-levelling cementitious skimming compound which takes the place of PIANOLINA for resilient floors - and produces PIANODUR R, capable of quickly setting and bonding dried tiles, that is without pre-wetting.
