Mapei has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the American University of Sharjah (AUS), marking a significant step in supporting the next generation of engineers in the UAE. The collaboration, established under the AUS Engineering Al Nukhba Program, reinforces Mapei’s commitment to fostering innovation, practical learning, and sustainability within the regional construction technology ecosystem.
As a global leader in construction chemical solutions, Mapei will work closely with AUS to bridge academic knowledge with real-world industry practice. The partnership focuses on structured internships, applied research, technical knowledge exchange, and hands-on exposure to modern construction methodologies—ensuring students gain the skills required for a rapidly evolving market.
A Partnership Built on Practical Learning
Through the agreement, Mapei will welcome AUS students annually for comprehensive internships within its teams and laboratories. Participating students will be immersed in active project environments, enabling them to engage with high-performance materials, quality control systems, testing procedures, and sustainability-driven technologies.
Mapei specialists and AUS faculty will also co-supervise selected capstone and research projects where applicable, bringing academic rigor and industrial relevance together. In addition, students will take part in organized field visits to Mapei’s manufacturing facility, laboratories, and key project sites across the UAE, offering first-hand exposure to advanced construction systems, safety procedures, and best practices.
Joint research and development opportunities will be pursued to address emerging needs within the UAE construction sector—particularly in durability, sustainability, materials innovation, and improved application systems.
Leadership Insights
“This collaboration is designed for outcomes you can measure in skill, in confidence and in employability,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of the AUS College of Engineering. “By connecting our students to Mapei’s teams, facilities and project environments, we are creating an applied learning loop that starts with a question on campus and ends with a solution on site.”
“We believe that investing in young people means investing in the future of the region and the local community. The collaboration with the American University of Sharjah represents an important step in fostering the professional and personal growth of new talents, creating a bridge between university and business,” added Giuseppe Castelli, Mapei Corporate HR & Organization Director.
Supporting the AUS Engineering Al Nukhba Program
The collaboration contributes to the objectives of the AUS Engineering Al Nukhba Program, which connects students with leading industry partners to build practical competencies and accelerate career readiness. With a growing network of partners across engineering disciplines, the program continues to strengthen the link between universities and industry, enabling young engineers to gain relevant, future-proof skills.
