In Mapei Group’s latest in-house competition, the “Mapei XVI Reference Grand Prix”, Mapei Construction Chemicals LLC was awarded two winning projects. The projects concerned were the significant contribution Mapei Construction Chemicals LLC made to the construction of the prestigious FIVE Palm Jumeirah Hotel and the building of Epic Luxury Yacht’s Lotus Mega Yacht.
The work at the FIVE Palm Jumeirah was carried out at various phases of its construction. Mapei supplied products to install 150,000sqm of marble and ceramics inside the hotel and in the Guinness World Record’s largest Glass Cube which is the heart and symbol of the FIVE hotel. In addition, Mapei’s Ultratop was installed as a finished floor for the Median Shanghai Chinese restaurant in the hotel. Ultratop was selected for its ability to create a range of designs as well as for its durability.
For Epic Luxury Yacht’s – Lotus Mega Yacht, Mapei was called upon to provide leveling & finishing solutions for both the internal and external metal surfaces totaling over 2,000sqm of flooring. The previous solutions implemented proved ineffective and had failed due to extended periods of sun exposure. The biggest challenge was ensuring that the yachts maintained resistance to salt water, UV and heat exposure damage. With all-metal decks, surface preparation was key. The Mapei team was on site through the entire project to ensure correct application of the solution and required products.
