MAPEI leads the way with sustainability certifications

 SCS Indoor Advantage Gold

Laval, Quebec – MAPEI Inc. is proud to announce that it has completed the certification process for SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold 2021 and now has a total of over 375 products (in the United States and Canada) that are certified for low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These certifications include products in the following categories: Architectural coatings, sealants, adhesives, underlayments, Mapeheat™ products, mats, membranes, accessories and more — including all of MAPEI’s product portfolio that can be used in interior applications.

“We aimed to certify products so every project type, no matter how high or low the budget, can include healthy, sustainable products,” said Luigi Di Geso, President and CEO of MAPEI North America. “Now, all MAPEI products that can be used on the interior of a building have achieved SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification.”

The MAPEI products that include SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification have been vetted by an ISO-accredited, third-party certification body and tested by an industry-independent laboratory. This third-party certification also assures customers that a product’s environmental claims have been validated by a qualified, independent and objective organization.

Further, the SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and General Services Administration (GSA), and qualifies for many green-building rating systems, including LEED v4, WELL Building Standard, BREEAM, Living Building Challenge, NAHB Green Building Standard and more. The certification also conforms with CDPH Standard Method v1.2-2017 (CA 01350) for the school classroom, private office and single-family residence parameters, as well as SCAQMD Rule 1113 for architectural coatings and Rule 1168 for adhesives and sealants.

“This is a great accomplishment for MAPEI. This certification is among the most requested sustainability certifications; it’s also one of the most important certifications for projects pursuing green building certifications, including LEED, WELL and the Living Building Challenge. We’re excited to share that we’ve added mats, membranes, underlayments, accessories and more to the existing SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certifications we achieved last year,” explained Brittany Storm, MAPEI’s Sustainability Manager.

All of these certifications will be added to the MAPEI Website, the mindful MATERIALS (mM) database and MAPEI Sustainability Reports in the near future.

MAPEI is committed to providing sustainable, environmentally responsible products, including transparency offerings through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Manufacturers’ Inventories (MIs) and more.
