Mapei products and systems for the construction of Corte di Quarto

Mapei was involved in the construction of Corte di Quarto, the building desired by the Fondazione Arché, a non-profit charitable organisation founded in Milan in 1991 thanks to the will and efforts of Padre Giuseppe Bettoni. The complex is reserved for single mothers, many of whom have already spent a period of time living in communal surroundings and aims to help them gain their independence and become themselves role models for others.

Mapei supplied numerous solutions for the construction work on both the interior and exterior areas of the building, which is located next to the CasArché complex at 70 Via Lessona.

Mapei used, for example, KERAFLEX MAXI S1 ZERO high performance cementitious adhesive to install internal porcelain flooring and ULTRACOLOR PLUS cementitious grouting mortar with DropEffect^® and BioBlock^® technology to fill the grouts. The screed on which the flooring was installed was made from TOPCEM PRONTO pre-blended mortar and was insulated by applying MAPESILENT under the screed, which is made up of an elastomeric membrane sandwiched to a layer of polyester and is used to soundproof floors and ceilings against impact noise caused by footsteps.

Other Mapei solutions were also used to waterproof the balconies, such as MAPEBAND SA self-adhesive butyl tape with a non-woven fabric backing to protect and seal breaks in the surfaces and the joints between the floors and walls of the balconies, and MAPELASTIC cementitious mortar, which is highly elastic and is used to protect screeds from water, in combination with MAPENET 150 alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh.

Once the surfaces had been waterproofed, KERAFLEX MAXI S1 ZERO adhesive was applied to bond the ceramic tiles and ULTRACOLOR PLUS grouting mortar was used to fill the grouts.

DURSILAC water-based enamel paint, which is available in either a MATT, GLOSS or SATIN finish, was used in combination with DURSILAC NO RUST anti-rust primer to treat and paint the iron railings.

The interior walls of the apartments were finished off with DURSILITE MATT paint, which is highly opaque and has excellent covering capacity and high white balance.

Silicate-based SILEXCOLOR PAINT was used in combination with its own special SILEXCOLOR PRIMER to finish off various areas of the new building.

Mapei has always been a staunch supporter of sustainability and is firmly behind the Fondazione Arché and its commitment to offer single mothers all the care, attention and support they need. In fact, over the years, the Company has provided support for many other initiatives undertaken by the Fondazione and has often provided funds and donated products and assistance from Mapei Technical Services to help build structures that provide shelter for families going through difficult times.

One of these initiatives is the fundraising drive organised during the past editions of Mapei Day, the historic cycling event held in Bormio/Passo dello Stelvio, which the Company donates every year to various associations, including the Fondazione Arché.

Another project which Mapei has been supporting for a number of years is the Convivio Charity Dinner to raise funds for initiatives to welcome and support vulnerable families and families going through difficult times.

And lastly, in 2016, the Company donated products to help build CasArché, a former infants’ school that was transformed into a communal learning centre providing temporary shelter for single mothers trying to become more economically independent, so they can then take care of themselves and rebuild their social lives.

This intervention is part of Mapei’s strategy to support projects based on solidarity and social responsibility.
