From Azerbaijan to Spain, by way of Italy: how Mapei left its mark on the most prestigious racetracks in the world
Mapei’s expertise in high-performance coatings for the world of motorsports has been showcased on some of the world’s most iconic motorsport circuits, from the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan to those in Jerez de la Frontera in Spain and Misano and Cremona in Italy. Utilizing the innovative Mapecoat TNS Race Track system, Mapei ensured safety, rapid film-forming and standout aesthetics on kerbs and run-off areas across events like the Formula 1 World Championship, World Superbike Championship, and the debut of the Women’s Circuit Racing Championship. Combining technical excellence with colour, Mapei continues to make a global impact in the world of motorsport.
BAKU CITY CIRCUIT, BAKU (AZERBAIJAN)
For the second year running the racetrack running through the streets of the city of Baku reaped the benefits of Mapei’s expertise. In preparation for the 17th round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship, the kerbs and run-off areas were coated with Mapecoat TNS Race Track rapid film-forming, acrylic resin-based coloured coating in water dispersion, which guarantees durability, resistance to slip and a rough surfaces finish, even in wet conditions. What is more, from an aesthetic perspective, the extensive range of colours available, combined with the possibility of creating even more colours using the ColorMap automatic tinting system, meant that all the patterns and colours specified could be created, in compliance with the highest standards of FIA.

Mapecoat TNS Race Track coating, compliant with FIA and FIM standards, was used to create durable, non-slip surfaces that maintain their rough surface texture over time. Apart from guaranteeing performance of the highest level, the iconic run-off areas also stood out for their unique look, created by the famous designer Aldo Drudi. The #RideOnColors project, which gave a new identity to the circuit named after Marco Simoncelli, was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award in 2024 in the “Business Research” category.
