Investing in culture means preserving heritage while encouraging new forms of artistic expression through collaboration between art, science and technology. Through its “Mapei for Culture” initiatives, Mapei supports opera, exhibitions, museums and historic institutions worldwide. From open-air performances and museum exhibitions to the restoration of iconic cultural landmarks, each project strengthens ties with local communities.

In today's fast-paced world, investing in culture means taking care of the legacy of beauty that has been entrusted to us and, at the same time, encouraging new forms of expression. It is an act of responsibility and visionary thinking that translates into projects designed to breathe fresh life into monuments, installations for reinventing urban spaces, exhibitions about both the past and present, and display layouts opening up new perspectives. It also means working alongside organisations operating in the realms of music, art and creativity to contribute to the cultural development of local areas.

Mapei for Culture

This is the spirit propelling Mapei to invest in contributing to the promotion and conservation of culture, both by supporting and working alongside important institutions and by providing cutting-edge expertise and products for restoring and renovating the world’s artistic heritage. Every project is an opportunity to enrich society and strengthen ties with the local communities in which it operates.

Gala in Sofia: Supporting opera under the stars

On August 28th–29th, 2025, Sofia’s iconic St. Alexander Nevsky Square became the stage for “Gala in Sofia,” a spectacular open-air opera event supported by Mapei Bulgaria. With over 10,000 guests in attendance—including business leaders, diplomats, and the mayor of Sofia—the festival celebrated music, heritage, and international collaboration. The first evening featured soprano Sonya Yoncheva and tenor Vittorio Grigolo. On the second night José Carreras and Plácido Domingo, two of the legendary “Three Tenors,” performed together in Bulgaria for the first time, joined again by Yoncheva in a program of operatic classics and fiery zarzuela. The presence of Mapei Bulgaria as a sponsor underscored the company’s commitment to cultural excellence and its role in building bridges between tradition and innovation.

The Kolarac endowment: a bridge between past and future

The Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment, founded in 1878 and opened to the public in 1932 in Belgrade, has stood for generations as a symbol of culture, knowledge, and public good. More than sixty years after its last renovation, this landmark is now undergoing essential works to restore its vitality and adapt it to the needs of modern audiences, allowing it to shine again as “Serbian Carnegie Hall” and to remain a living bridge between heritage and the future. In this demanding process, Mapei Serbia has become the partner and donor, supporting the Endowment with expertise and solutions tailored to the challenges of preserving historical authenticity while enabling contemporary functionality. The renovation includes structural and technical improvements, the renewal of key facilities, and the creation of new spaces, all designed to broaden cultural offerings and attract younger generations.

Dante Bini at ADI Design Museum

Design, architecture and technology are realms of interest for Mapei and an integral part of its business. It is precisely this affinity with art that led the company to be one of the partners sponsoring the exhibition entitled “Dante Bini. Out of the Box,” held from 1st May to 15th June at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, continuing a partnership that began in 2024. The exhibition offered a unique insight into the architect's work based on a layout highlighting its experimental nature. A tribute to innovation as the language of the future.

An exhibition about Dorothea Lange at the Diocesan Museum of Milan

From science to photography: the exhibition about Dorothea Lange being held at the Carlo Maria Martini Diocesan Museum of Milan, partly sponsored by Mapei, is a diary in images that takes visitors back to the days of the Great Depression. The exhibition, which run from 19th September 2025 to 19th January 2026, brings together emblematic photographs telling tales of poverty, migration, and human dignity.
Mapei decided to sponsor this project being hosted at the Diocesan Museum due to the social value of the American photographer's work, well aware that culture represents the very foundations and identity of a community.
