Mapescreed: the technology revolutionising the screed market
High performance, on-site traceability, sustainability and continuous technical support
Thomas Gessaroli, Mapei’s Product Manager for Admixtures for screeds, explains how the Mapescreed range meets the challenges posed by modern-day construction sites, by providing advanced solutions for the construction of screeds and lightweight substrates, thanks to a line of specific admixtures that improve mechanical performance, reduce drying shrinkage and optimise thermal conductivity. Designed to meet the needs of today’s construction sites, the range stands out for its high environmental sustainability and the continuous technical support that comes with it, from mix design to on-site certification.
What type of products does the Mapescreed range include?
Mapescreed is a comprehensive range of specific solutions for screeds and lightweight substrates developed by the Mapei Research & Development Centre to provide a practical solution for all screed-related construction site needs.

Mapescreed admixtures allow, through the use of local raw materials, to produce low thickness, quick-drying screeds, with high mechanical strength and suitable for high-load environments.
What benefits does it offer screed manufacturers? What are the most common challenges they face?
Made with local raw materials, Mapescreed admixtures make it possible to produce low-thickness screeds with high mechanical strength for high traffic environments. They also make it possible to achieve low cement-to-water ratios and reduce the drying shrinkage, in order to control the risk of cracking.
The Mapescreed range is ideal for both rapid-drying screeds and screeds laid in hot climates, to help keep work programmes on schedule. The systems meet the highest thermal standards, by significantly improving the conductivity index.
The Mapescreed range also includes Mapescreed Advance CR Tracer and Mapescreed Fast Track Tracer admixtures, formulated with a specific photoluminescent pigment for on-site tracking.
Lastly, the range includes synthetic foaming agents that generate stable foam for producing lightweight, low-density, heat-insulating substrates (Mapescreed Foamer S Plus and Mapescreed Foamer L).
Which are the most effective sales channels for this range?
Specialist screeding contractors are the most effective sales channel for the Mapescreed range. Our collaboration with them ensures ongoing, first-class technical support, spanning screed mix design, monitoring of mechanical characteristics and drying times, and on-site certification of the finished screed system.
This direct channel with expert screeding contractors enables us to provide technical support alongside operators and to supply substantial volumes of products within definite time-frames.
The ongoing support and on-site training provided by Mapei and its technical sales staff add value to what we offer and strengthen our partners’ conviction that Mapescreed systems are indisputably the right choice.

The Mapescreed range is ideal for both fast setting screeds and screeds made in hot climates to ensure construction schedules are met.
What challenges does this range face and what opportunities does it offer on the market?
Mapei’s long experience in this sector enables us to meet the challenges that the market lays down for us on a daily basis, by offering our partners an all-round service.
The main challenges relate to the growing need for:
- Technical training to help users get the best out of the Mapescreed range. It is essential that contractors and installers are properly trained in the correct use of admixtures and screeding techniques.
- Support across every stage of the construction work: design, development of the mix and on-site certification.
- Growing environmental awareness: the market is demanding ever more sustainable, low-emissions solutions, involving percentages of recycled materials and low environmental impact. This poses a constant challenge in terms of innovation.
The main challenge is still the recycled material supply chain, which has a major impact on finished product performance. However, Mapei, which has always kept pace with change, offers a comprehensive range of admixtures with environmental certification. These have what it takes to make high-performance screeds with shorter drying times, better mechanical performances and compatibility with radiant systems.
What are your forecasts for the next few years?
The screed sector is constantly evolving, with growing demand for sustainability, through the use of products with an ever smaller environmental footprint. Mapei is already addressing these changes by continuously strengthening the green credentials of its solutions, which enable contractors to produce screeds with an ever-higher percentage of recycled material, low CO2 emissions and less environmental impact across the entire product life-cycle.
