New tennis courts for the ATP Challenger Rovereto

Completed with the Mapecoat TNS Comfort System, the courts offer pro-grade playing surfaces and high level of comfort for players

During the 2024 edition of the ATP Challenger Perrel-FAIP Trophy, Mapei played a key role as technical partner by supplying the Mapecoat TNS Comfort system to create high-performance tennis courts. The surfaces were designed to offer optimal playing comfort, excellent ball bounce, and resistance to wear. Certified by the ITF (Court Pace Rating 2), the solution is also weather-resistant and sustainable.

From 17^th to 24^th November 2024, the city of Rovereto hosted the nineteenth edition of the Perrel-FAIP Trophy, a tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour 100 calendar. The event was held in the Palabaldresca sports centre at the Circolo Tennis di Rovereto, a tennis club with 5 clay and 5 resin courts founded in 1935 in the province of Trento (northern Italy). Mapei was the technical partner for the event and contributed to the creation of three of these courts by supplying products from the Mapecoat TNS Comfort system, cutting-edge technology in the sports surfaces sector.

Innovation and comfort for the courts

The courts for the Rovereto Challenger tournament were prepared using the Mapecoat TNS Comfort system, a cutting-edge solution specifically developed to create pro-grade playing surfaces and ideal for both indoor and outdoor tournaments. This system is made up of a cycle of products, starting with the application of Mapecomfort R rubber mat, bonded to the concrete substrate using Ultrabond Sport adhesive. Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW solvent-free, two-component epoxy primer was then applied on the substrates to promote uniform adhesion of the following layers of the system. The next step was to apply a flexible, acrylic resin-based middle layer of Mapecoat TNS Grey Base Coat and an intermediate, coloured layer of Mapecoat TNS Base Color waterborne coating, which together guarantee excellent elasticity and resistance. Two coats of coloured, acrylic-resin based Mapecoat TNS Finish 4 were then applied to complete the surface with a uniform and long-lasting protective finish.

The court was marked out using Mapecoat TNS Line Tex, creating playing lines that would be resistant and highly visible. This application cycle made it possible to create courts with even, regular bounce of the ball, fluid changes in direction and excellent playing comfort, allowing players to express their abilities to the full.

Mapecoat TNS Grey Base Coat and Mapecoat TNS Base Color coatings were used as an intermediate layer of the Mapecoat TNS Comfort coating system for the tennis courts.

Resistance and sustainability at the service of sport

The Mapecoat TNS Comfort system (certified ITF – court pace rating 2) used for the tennis courts in Rovereto excels not only for its performance from a sports perspective, but also for its resistance to wear. Even though these courts are housed inside a closed, fabric and frame structure which can open along the sides, the system is suit-able for outdoor courts thanks to its resistance to external conditions such as UV rays and different weather conditions. Choosing durable materials suitable for the requirements of modern sports is part of Mapei’s commitment to sustainability, a shared valued that has played a key role in improving performance in sport surfaces.

A showcase for international talent

The ATP Challenger Rovereto tournament attracted emerging talent and stars from the top 100 ATP players such as Borna Coric e Luca Nardi, ready to challenge one another on courts offering ideal playing conditions. The choice of the Mapecoat TNS Comfort system confirmed Mapei’s commitment to supporting top-flight sports events and guaranteeing technical solutions that can improve the playing experience of athletes.

Mapecoat TNS Finish 4 was applied to complete the surface with a uniform and long-lasting protective finish. The courts were marked out using Mapecoat TNS Line Tex to create the playing lines.
