Soon after the completion of MBC phase 1, major issues on the tile bonding surfaced. Installation materials were supplied by Laticrete. Tiles from the toilets debonded causing potential danger. At the request of the owner, Mapei did a thorough site inspection. It was discovered that there was massive hollowness under the tiles for all toilets (more than 100). Mapei recommended remedial action was to remove all tiles and reinstall with Keraflex Maxi S1 and Keracolor SF. This was approved by the architect. After Mapei’s successful intervention of MBC phase 1, the owner, architect and contractor gained absolute confidence in Mapei’s expertise and products. For the MBC2 project, the contractor called on Mapei to propose our products. The invitation is not open to other competitors. Progressive meetings were held with the main contractor, Shimizu Corporation, sub-contractors, Yangzijiang and CSC Holdings for discussion on internal and external works. Mapei proposals were supported with test reports, certificates, method statements, brochures and past project references. After the numerous rounds of discussions, the contractor and sub-contractors came to an agreement to employ Mapei products and submission was made to the architect for final approval. Our proposals were met with a 100 percent approval. After contracting the supplies, Mapei Technical Service team conducted several mock-up demonstrations and training to contractors on the correct application of our products. Mapei has supplied of total about S$460,000 worth of products for Phase 2 alone |
