MAPEI, a worldwide leader in the manufacture and supply of world class flooring solutions has established itself in the local flooring market through its range of innovative quality system solutions and technical service provided to the market. As an ISO 9001 accredited manufacturer we not only adhere to the strictest local quality standards within the products themselves, but also the best practice in service delivery and customer support.

Mapei South Africa is known for its impressive range of tile adhesives, one of which being Ultrabond Eco PU 2K, a reaction resin adhesive with comprehensive bonding capabilities. Ultrabond Eco PU 2K is a two-component, solvent-free, high performance polyurethane adhesive with very low emission level of volatile organic compounds (VOC) for porcelain and stone tiles. The new adhesive is classified as reactive (R) improved (2) and slip resistant (T) of class R2T, according to the  EN 12004 Standard .

Ultrabond Eco PU 2K is used to bond large format tiles and stone on all types of internal and external wall and floor substrates normally used in the building industry such as screeds, render, concrete, cement-fibre panels, gypsum, plasterboard, pre-fabricated gypsum panels, etc. and on particularly difficult substrates such as metal, PVC, polyester, etc. Ultrabond Eco PU2K is also recommended for the installation of tiles around fireplaces.

In addition to being a totally polyurethane, hypoallergenic and solvent-free adhesive, facilitating its use by professionals sensitive to epoxy or epoxy-polyurethane products, it’s easily workable with a high elasticity stand out, optimal durability and it hardens perfectly without shrinkage. Ultrabond PU 2K even allows the application of tiles of great weight and format, without vertical sliding, which simplifies and improves the efficiency of the construction solutions in which it is prescribed.

When the two components are mixed together they form a paste with the following characteristics:

• good workability;

• excellent durability and resistance to ageing;

• perfect adhesion to all types of substrate normally used in the building industry;

• hardens by chemical reaction without shrinking to form a tough, strong bond;

• high elasticity;

• may be applied on vertical surfaces without slumping and without allowing tiles to slip, including large, heavy tiles;

• suitable for users allergic to epoxy and epoxy polyurethane products.

The mixing ratio between the resin (component A) and catalyser (component B) must be strictly adhered to; any variation may affect the hardening process of the product. Pour the catalyser (component B) into the container of component A and blend together with a mixer at low-speed to form a smooth, even grey or white paste. A low speed electric mixer is preferable for this operation so that the paste is perfectly blended without overheating, which would reduce its workability time. Apply the adhesive within 30-40 minutes of mixing

MAPEI’s local technical expertise is backed up by the latest in international research and development and production standards resulting in international standard products ideally catered for the local market.

“We are completely focused on creating solutions that are reliable, efficient and long lasting,” states Zamaswazi Ntobela – Product Manager at Mapei South Africa. “Our continued research and development ensures that our products are world-class, environmentally friendly and deliver long-lasting results. Ultrabond Eco PU 2K is no exception and not only does it deliver the highest quality of reliability, but we are on hand to provide support and guidance when needed.”
