Johar Market is located at Semarang, Central Java. The architect who built the building was a Dutch named Herman Karsten. As one of historical building in Semarang, Johar Market was inaugurated on June 9, 1939. It is considered one of the biggest and modern market in South East Asia. Up until 2015 it was able to accommodate 7000 sellers, until the building caught on fire in 2015. PUPR Ministry instigated revitalitation project started in August 2018 – 2019. Indonesian President, Jokowi Widodo observed the Johar Market on 30 December 2019, which was burned several years ago was rehabilitated according to the original building which is a cultural heritage building.
