Museum of the Future

Renowned as an architectural and engineering marvel, the Museum of the Future was built using the latest technologies to encapsulate Dubai’s futuristic vision; creating a symbolic circular building which represents three main values: Humanity, Earth and the Optimistic Unknown (the future) depicted by the void design.

The 77-metre-high striking landmark is spread across seven floors above a 3-storey podium and includes a F+B deck, with auditorium, retail, parking and services. Each floor is dedicated to various thought-provoking exhibitions to engage and educate visitors. The first three floors focus on outer space resource development, ecosystems, bioengineering, and health and wellbeing, while the remaining floors showcase near-future technologies that address challenges in areas including health, water, food, transportation and energy, with the last floor specially designed for children.

Designed by local award-winning architectural firm Killa Design, the torus-shaped building with an overall area capacity of 30,583 m² occupies prime location adjacent to the Emirates Towers in the Financial District of Downtown Dubai.

What was Mapei’s Role?

MAPEI Construction Chemicals LLC, recognised as the best adhesive manufacturer in the UAE, attained the world-famous project as the leader in sustainable building solutions, and supplied its eco-friendly products, contributing towards the build of the internal walls, landscaping, flooring and lobby.

Over a four-year period, MAPEI, the leading manufacturer company in the UAE construction industry, with over 85 years of experience, in the field of adhesives, sealants & chemical products for the building industry, used its eco friendly adhesives, grouts, sealants, screed and epoxy flooring system, from its building, resilient and ceramic lines, weighing over 48 tonnes for the project.

The surface was first prepared using Primer SN, a two-component epoxy primer, to improve the adhesion of the self-leveling epoxy. This was followed by MAPEFLOOR I 300-SL ME, a self-leveling epoxy for the floor, to reinforce and protect the internal flooring, creating a seamless surface to manage high volume traffic.

MAPEI’s TOPCEM was efficiently applied as a floor screed on the concrete slab. To bond large-sized natural stone on the floor of the museum, MAPEI’s best tile adhesive in Dubai, high performance, deformable cementitious adhesive, KERAFLEX MAXI S1 was used to prevent the vertical slip on tiles. Following this, KERAPOXY ADHESIVE, the two-component epoxy adhesive, and GRANIRAPID, a C2FS1 Adhesives for stones which is a two-component high-performance, fast-setting and hydrating cementitious adhesive, were applied for installation of the different types of tiles on the internal flooring, and stone to floors and walls of the museum.

To improve the grout compactness, FUGOLASTIC, KERAPOXY and ULTRACOLOR PLUS were utilized as grouting for the tile joints. Finally, MAPESIL LM, the neutral silicone mould-resistant sealant and MAPESIL AC, the pure, mould-resistant, acetic silicone sealant, were used to create flexible joints.
