Mapei for Mapei: Group projects worldwide showcasing flooring, coatings and sustainable solutions

From the new headquarters in Sweden and Slovenia, to offices in Italy and Portugal, and manufacturing plants in Canada and the USA, each project showcases flooring, coatings and waterproofing systems tailored to performance and design. These projects embody the company’s values of innovation, quality and people-focused design.

HEADQUARTERS, MAPEI SWEDEN - BROMMA

On 3 April, Mapei AB, the Group's Swedish subsidiary, officially inaugurated its new headquarters in the Bromma district, in the western part of Stockholm. The headquarters houses a training centre, Research & Development Laboratories and offices where employees work. Textile floors were installed in the office areas by using Ultrabond Eco V4 Evolution. Resin flooring was installed in the meeting rooms and training areas using a cycle of products manufactured and distributed in Sweden by Mapei AS, such as Mapeprimer M, a primer particularly suitable for treating concrete surfaces; Mapefloor 406 N, a two-component, low-viscosity polyurethane resin-based product; Mapefloor I 305, a pigmented epoxy coating. The cycle has made it possible to obtain seamless flat, resistant and highly attractive surfaces.

At Mapei AB headquarters in Sweden textile floors were installed in the office areas by using Ultrabond Eco V4 Evolution.

OFFICES, MAPEI ITALY - CATANIA

The completion of Mapei's brand new offices in Catania (Sicily) involved the use of the company products from the line dedicated to the installation of ceramic tiles as well as coatings for walls. Mapeguard UM35 anti-fracture and waterproofing membrane was applied to the substrates of the floors in the service areas and bathrooms to facilitate the safe installation of the porcelain tiles. The porcelain coverings were bonded with Keraflex Extra S1 Zero* deformable adhesive. The tile joints were grouted with Keracolor FF cementitious mortar.

The expansion joints were sealed with Mapesil AC. Dursilite Gypsos, a washable, highly mould-resistant water-based paint, was applied to the walls to obtain a smooth, silky and highly matt finish.

Mapei products for the installation of ceramic tiles were used to complete Mapei's brand new offices in Catania (Sicily).

HEADQUARTERS, MAPEI SLOVENIA - ŠKOFLJICA

Last year, Mapei d.o.o., the Group's Slovenian subsidiary, inaugurated a new headquarters in Škofljica, near Ljubljana. Various Mapei products for floors, stairs, profiles, walls and roofs also contributed to its construction. On the ground floor, the ceramic floors in the reception area and warehouse offices were laid using Keraflex Extra S1 Zero* adhesive before grouting the joints with Kerapoxy Easy Design.

In the offices on the first floor, smooth, highly abrasion-resistant decorative flooring was created with Mapefloor I 320 SL Concept, a self-levelling epoxy coating with a coloured granular finish, after the mechanical preparation of the substrates, vacuuming the dust and treating the surfaces with Primer SN. In the offices on the second floor, on the other hand, textile flooring was laid with Ultrabond Eco Tack adhesive after levelling the substrates with Ultraplan Eco self-levelling compound to eliminate differences in thickness.

Various Profilpas profiles were also used in the offices and bonded with Mapeflex MS 45 elastic adhesive. The substrates of the stairs were levelled off with Planitop Fast 330 mortar before bonding the ceramic tiles with Keraflex Extra S1 adhesive (now available as Keraflex Extra S1 Zero*) and grouting the joints with Ultracolor Plus*. In the bathrooms, the substrates were waterproofed with Mapelastic Turbo (now available as Mapelastic Turbo Zero*) before laying ceramic tiles on the floor and walls with Adesilex P9 Express and mosaic tiles with Adesilex P10. The joints were then grouted with Kerapoxy Easy Design epoxy grout.

Mapei products were also used to complete the façades of the building: Planitop HDM Maxi mortar was applied on the façades together with Mapegrid G 220 fibreglass mesh for the structural strengthening of the walls. Ceramic tiles were then bonded to the façades with Ultralite S2 adhesive before grouting the joints with Ultracolor Plus* and sealing them with Mapesil LM. The roofs of the building were waterproofed with Mapeplan T M 18 Broof (t2) synthetic waterproofing membrane after creating a vapour barrier on the substrates with Mapeplan EVO SK, a product distributed on the Slovenian market by Mapei d.o.o.

Various Mapei products were used to complete floors, stairs, profiles, walls and roofs in the new headquarters of Mapei d.o.o. in Slovenia.

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI PORTUGAL - CANTANHEDE (PORTUGAL)

Since March 2024, Mapei Portugal's new plant has been operational in Cantanhede, covering an area of 26,500 m², of which 12,000 m² is covered. The complex houses a showroom, training areas and offices. Textile flooring has been laid in the latter. The work began with the preparation of the substrates using Ultraplan self-levelling compound, followed by the bonding of the textile coverings with Mapecryl Eco adhesive.

Abrasion-resistant decorative flooring was installed on the stairs and in the showroom using Mapefloor I 320 SL epoxy coating after priming the substrates with Primer SN.

The Decor System 70 epoxy system was used to create decorative floorings with a trowelled effect in the toilets and office coffee room.

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI CANADA - LAVAL

In this historic manufacturing plant (the first one the Mapei Group opened outside Italy), office renovations were completed in 2023. Mapei products were used in the Marketing Department offices on the second floor to prime and level the concrete substrate and install textile flooring. Later, between 2023 and 2024, the washrooms were completely renovated, using the same Mapei solution to prepare the substrates. Adhesives and grouts from the Tile & Stone Installation Systems product line were used to bond the ceramic tiles and grout the joints.

At Mapei Inc. (Canada) manufacturing plant in Laval Mapei products were used to install textile floorings in the Marketing Department offices.

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI USA - HOUSTON (TEXAS)

This 18,600 m² production facility was extended to enclose powder production lines in the spring of 2024. The extension also included the completion of new offices whose LVT floors were bonded with Ultrabond Eco 399** adhesive. The floors in the restrooms were laid by using the multi-layered non-slip epoxy system Mapefloor System 32. In the toilettes tile joints were grouted with Flexcolor** grout.

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI USA - CALHOUN (GEORGIA)

This Mapei Corporation production facility, which covers over 19,500 m², has been operational since early 2022. It encloses offices whose LVT floors were installed using Ultrabond Eco 399 adhesive**, a product that is manufactured and distributed on the US market by Mapei Corporation. The resin floors in the restrooms were completed by using Mapefloor System 32, a multi-layered non-slip epoxy system which allows floor layers to create floor coverings with high chemical resistance and no-slip finish, impermeable to oils and aggressive agents as well as high resistance to frequent washing and wear.

At Mapei Corporation manufacturing plant in Calhoun (Georgia) LVT floors were installed using Ultrabond Eco 399 adhesive**, a product that is manufactured and distributed on the US market by Mapei Corporation.

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI USA - WILDWOOD (FLORIDA)

This Mapei Corporation facility began operation as a warehouse and distribution center in 2018. In 2023-2024 a new warehouse and three new production lines were added together with new offices. The ceramic floors of the offices and toilettes required the use of Mapei solutions for levelling the substrates, bonding the tiles, grouting the joints. Other Mapei products were used to carry out concrete repair works before installing the floors.

Mapei products for ceramic tiles were used to install the floors of the offices and toilettes in the Mapei Corp. manufacturing plant in Wildwood (Florida, USA).

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI USA - SWEDESBORO (NEW JERSEY)

LVT floors were installed in 2018 in the office area. In 2024 they were enhanced with partitions, a lunchroom and a small restroom where ceramic floors were installed on the floors by using Mapei products to prime the substrates, bonding the ceramic covering and grouting the tile joints.

Ceramic floors were installed on the floors by using Mapei products at Mapei Corporation manufacturing plant in Swedesboro (New Jersey, USA).

MANUFACTURING PLANT, MAPEI USA - WEST CHICAGO (ILLINOIS)

In 2022 textile floors were laid in the offices and training room of this facility and LVP (Luxury Vinyl Planks) in the hallways and kitchen. In both cases their installation was completed by using the thixotropic smoothing compound Planipatch for preparing substrates and the adhesive Ultrabond Eco 399** for bonding the textile covering.
