Reliable waterproofing solutions for a project that enhances the area
An interview with Project Manager Domenico Petrone on innovation, collaboration, and certified quality in the construction of the new Sibaritide General Hospital in Southern Italy
Project Manager Domenico Petrone describes the new Sibaritide General Hospital as a landmark of technological innovation and regional value. Built with extensive use of precast systems, the project reflects a commitment to quality, efficiency, and sustainability. The choice of Mapei and Polyglass solutions ensured reliability, certified performance, and timely delivery. Continuous technical support and Bureau Veritas certification reinforced the project’s excellence, setting a new benchmark for healthcare construction in Southern Italy.
The new Sibaritide General Hospital is an ambitious project. What are its most significant features?
It’s a work that combines technological innovation with a focus on the local community. From a technical point of view, we made targeted use of precast elements and processes for various parts of the building – structures, architectural features and technical installations – in collaboration with the best partners in the industry. There’s no doubt that the hospital represents a unique opportunity for the region, insofar as it is a modern building that enhances the quality of local health services and brings new value to its host area.
The new Sibaritide General Hospital complex represents an effective combination of state-of-the-art engineering, advanced precast production processes and sustainable design.
D’Agostino Costruzioni Generali SpA opted for Polyglass and Mapei products in the building’s construction. What factors led you to this decision?
In a work of this scale, it’s imperative to use durable, high-quality materials. Polyglass and Mapei not only offered us a wide range of reliable technical solutions, but also guaranteed that they could supply them on time, which plays a crucial role in keeping a project on schedule. This combination enabled us to achieve – and in many cases exceed – the specified standards. The results confirm that this was not only the right choice, but also an extremely effective choice.
How important was it to have access to technical support from Polyglass and Mapei on-site?
It was essential. Polyglass and Mapei worked alongside us with continuous, top-level support, in the form of frequent inspections, virtual meetings with technicians and immediate solutions to every need. This enabled us to overcome the challenges posed by the project with complete peace of mind, and to meet the stringent quality standards we had set ourselves.
The system adopted for the construction of the roof has been designed to ensure maximum performance in terms of durability, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance.
The work also involved the use of waterproofing systems certified by Bureau Veritas Italia. What was the reasoning behind this decision?
If you want to achieve excellence, you have to be rigorous. We chose Bureau Veritas Italia certified systems, proposed by Polyglass, because they guarantee compliance with ISO standards, UNI standards and the IGLAE Code of Practice. In a project like this, every detail must be of the highest quality and conformity, so that you can hand over a solid, safe work that lives up to European standards.
