Concrete repair and structural reinforcement works to the old bridge at Batu Kawa, Kuching-Sarawak. Batu Kawa is a suburban area in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, which is the largest state in Malaysia. The state is famous for its large expanses of tropical rain forests which are home to rich varieties of flora and fauna. Road transport in Sarawak is not well developed and river travel and ferry crossings are common. The 20-year old Batu Kawa bridge is only one of two linking Kuching to the western corner of the state and has, therefore, been heavily used and loaded resulting in the formation of cracks in the structure. The contract works to refurbish and reinforce the 292m long bridge needed to satisfy several criteria: - Repair all cracks and restore the integrity of the bridge structure - Reinforce the main structural sections and make the bridge safe for the increased traffic loads - Provide a protective and decorative coating over the completed works - Complete the works within the 1 . month closure period for re-opening in time for the coming harvest festival heavy traffic. |
