Mapei delivers UK-first Mapefloor CPU+ finish for Bell’s Healthcare

August 19, 2025

Mapei UK’s first Mapefloor CPU+ installation has been completed at Bell’s Healthcare in Southport. The seamless, hygienic polyurethane concrete finish was installed by L A Flooring Southport Limited, for J&K Construction Ltd, as part of an upgrade of its Southport facility.

Established in 1848, Bell’s Healthcare is a leading manufacturer of over-the-counter pharmaceuticals. Originally established as a pharmacy in Preston, Lancashire, its factory was destroyed twice during WWII but the firm continued to thrive, moving to its current purpose-built premises in 1978. These have been significantly extended to increase capacity and today the site features nine modern production lines, with 150 staff dedicated to the production of over 150 individual product lines, including pain relief, supplements and cold remedies.

Mapefloor CPU+ was specified at the Southport site to upgrade the existing manufacturing facility from vinyl to a specialist resin floor system. A self-levelling polyurethane system, Mapefloor CPU+ provides a waterproof surface that’s highly resistant to chemicals and physical aggression and impermeable to aggressive substances, making it ideal for pharmaceutical application. The installation spanned approximately 600m2.

The specification at Bell’s Healthcare included Mapefloor CPU+/Primer polyurethane-cement primer, used to prepare surfaces, and vibrant blue-toned Mapefloor CPU+/MF high-performance self-smoothing polyurethane cement mortar which was applied onto the production floor. Mapefloor CPU+/TC Topcoat was also used to coat upstands.

Quick to apply, the hardened surface of Mapefloor CPU+ creates a smooth, safe, hygienic finish that’s water and dust repellent, resistant to sparks and easy to clean and sanitise.
