1937: Rodolfo Squinzi founded M.A.P.E.I. Materiali Ausiliari Per Edilizia e Industria (Auxiliary Materials For Building and Industry) The first headquarters of the company were in Via Cafiero, which today is home of the Group's most important Research & Development Centre. The first important example in the tile installation sector was the installation of tiles on pre-cast concrete panels and represented a turning point and acceleration in the growth of Mapei.

Another important step forward was the first phase of our internationalisation strategy by exporting products overseas to countries such as Switzerland, France and the Americas.

Founded in 1937 in Milan, Mapei is the world leader in the production of adhesives and complementary products for laying all types of floor, wall and coating materials, and is also specialized in a broad range of chemical products used in the building industry, such as waterproofing products, special mortars, admixtures for concrete, products for underground constructions and for the restoration of concrete and historical buildings and recently the products for marine industry. Mapei Group is currently operating with more than 10.000 employees in 5 continents, 35 countries with 81 production facilities and 87 subsidiaries.

Mapei Turkey, established in 2013, introduced a wide range of products to Turkish Market; tiles adhesives and grouts, screeds, self-levelers, products for the substrate preparation, waterproofing systems, special repair and anchoring mortars, materials for thermal insulation, indoor and outdoor coatings, industrial floorings, sealants and other construction products that are always offered as a complete system. Mapei Turkey operates with a production plant in Polatlı and 3 offices: the HQ in Ankara and 2 regional offices in İstanbul and in İzmir.

Based on Mapei's ‘think local, act global’ strategy, the company has also adapted the formulations to meet the local needs of Turkish clients, creating specific products developed and tested in the main R&D center in Milan, in cooperation with Polatlı, Ankara plant.
