Mapei is proud to play a key role in the restoration of a critical water canal network that supports a large farming community. Over time, continuous water flow carrying abrasive debris and stone had severely eroded the concrete lining of the canals, leading to surface wear, cavitation, and structural damage. In response to this challenge, Mapei was called upon to provide a robust, long-lasting repair solution that could be executed efficiently to avoid disruption to the essential water supply.
The selected system centred around Mapegrout T60 ZA, a sulphate- and chloride-resistant, fibre-reinforced, shrinkage-compensated, thixotropic repair mortar for concrete repairs. Known for its high early strength development and smooth application properties with superior finishing, Mapegrout T60 ZA was the ideal choice for restoring the canal structure while allowing rapid return to service.
The sample application was expertly executed by CCS PE, whose attention to detail and professionalism set the benchmark for the rest of the project. Following the application of Mapegrout T60 ZA, the repaired surface was treated with Mapecure E50, a film-forming curing compound that supports proper hydration and strength development.
Subsequently, the existing expansion joints within the canal were meticulously cut, prepared, and primed with Primer M, then sealed with Mapeflex PU 45 FT - a high-performance, rapid-hardening polyurethane sealant. This solution provided the elasticity and durability needed to accommodate movement and resist further water ingress.
The success of the sample section led to CCS PE being awarded with the full contract. Phase 1 of the project has been completed to the highest standard, Phase 2 is now underway and preparations for phase 3 are already in progress, making progress in restoring this vital piece of infrastructure.
This project stands as a testament to the performance and reliability of Mapei solutions in demanding environments and highlights our continued commitment to supporting communities with world-class building and repair solutions.
