‘Conversations at Clerkenwell in partnership with Mapei’ collaboration – a principle inherent to Mapei’s ethos.
Building a collaborative team environment is an ethos inherent to Mapei’s culture, a principle that is showcased again this year at Clerkenwell Design Week.

For a 2nd year, Mapei UK are working closely with established Clerkenwell architecture practice, Harper Downie Architects, to present ‘Conversations at Clerkenwell in partnership with Mapei’, located on the Design Fields.

The installation embraces the special character of the area and encompasses two distinctive areas - ‘Talk Space’ and ‘Mapei Space’. The two connecting spaces demonstrates Mapei’s quest for excellence to deliver high quality presentations and CPDs, discussing industry trends and exploring the comprehensive range of Mapei products, globally training over 161,000 building professionals. The ‘Talk Space’ hosts world class talks throughout CDW including Mapei’s free presentations – ‘External wall insulation and sustainable decorative and protective coatings’ on Tuesday 16:30 – 17:15 and ‘Specifying flooring solutions on Thursday 16:30-17:15. To reserve your space, please email hello@clerkenwelldesignweek.com

The ‘Mapei Space’, styled as a lounge room setting, demonstrates the versatility of Mapei’s coatings to create an attractive pattern as featured in the Marie Claire Italia September issue. Furniture supplied by Andreu World complement the look, the ‘Capri’ armchairs with upholstered seat and backrest are presented with a black base option and offers extraordinary ergonomics. The contemporary lime ‘Raglan’ Sofa, also supplied by Andreu World, is a modular sofa system designed for collaboration areas in corporate, public and private spaces.

The ‘Mapei Space’ features ‘A ribbon in space’ photographs by London based photographer Liam Leslie, supplied by Clerkenwell gallery Velorose. The eight exquisite black and white abstract photographs of the MAXXI building in Rome – the museum of art and architecture which awarded the late Zaha Hadid the UK’s highest accolade for architecture, the Sterling Prize. Liam Leslie’s sensitive eye presents a building that houses art, as art rather than architecture. Concrete becomes abstract, earthly becomes ethereal and all sense of scale disappears.

The OBJECT / IMAGE pottery by artist William Martin, also showcased in the ‘Mapei Area’ asks us to consider the interface between objects and representation and has also been supplied by Velorose gallery. William shares a studio space with Feix & Merlin architects where he has observed the way architects work, and the results can be seen in OBJECT / IMAGE. His exploration of how graphical representations of space convey objective realities has led him to revise the process; this is experience in objects of contrasting form, size, finish and texture.

The installation has been completed using Mapei’s Silancolor, Dursilite Matt and the newly launched Dursilite Gloss coatings, tinted using Mapei’s ColorMap machine. Within the ‘Talk Space’, the CityWalk Tokyo Heights carpet planks were supplied by CFS and installed using Mapei’s carpet tile tackifier, Ultrabond Eco Tack. The sophisticated Eternity Parquet in Ivory Washed Oak were also supplied by CFS and installed using Mapei’s Ultrabond Eco MS 4 LVT, a one-component, silylated polymer based adhesive for LVT. The stairs to both spaces were completed using a square edge nose supplied by Gradus.

The Mapei Specification Centre located on Great Sutton Street will be showcasing the Groups sustainability commitments at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week. Mapei are committed to protecting the earth, using energy and resources sustainably, minimizing waste and developing and supplying products with end user safety in mind. As a leading company in the global construction market the Mapei Group are taking further steps towards social responsibility - ethical behaviour, the quest for excellence and transparent communications are Mapei’s corporate values.

Collaboration is a principle inherent to Mapei’s ethos - this project reflects Mapei’s strong relationship with the Art & Design community and the wider specification supply chain.
