Mapei awarded at the Ecopack 2025 competition for the eco-design of its packaging

Three new polypropylene packagings with over 30% recycled material

December 10, 2025

Mapei confirms its leading role in an increasingly sustainable building industry. The Milan-based company is among the 121 companies awarded by the Ecopack 2025 competition, the CONAI initiative dedicated to the eco-design of packaging. This year, the competition, selected 217 virtuous cases out of 359 applications, recognising the solutions capable of reducing the environmental impact of packs throughout their entire life cycle. With this achievement, Mapei confirms its continued presence among CONAI's award-winning companies for sustainable innovation in packaging, following the recognitions obtained in the previous editions of the competition.

For the 2025 edition, Mapei submitted three rigid plastic packaging projects: three buckets which, starting from virgin polypropylene solutions, were redesigned to include a significant amount of recycled material, while maintaining the technical performance required for professional use on construction sites. The new containers, destined for Mapei paste and adhesive products, now contain at least 30% recycled plastic, helping reduce the use of virgin raw materials and enhancing recovery flows.

The first bucket, with a capacity of approximately 1.5 litres, is made of polypropylene with a minimum recycled content of 38%, ensuring high mechanical resistance and full recyclability at the end of its life. The second bucket, approximately 5.8 litres, uses polypropylene containing at least 30% recycled material, with specific dimensions and thicknesses designed to ensure stability during stacking, durability in storage and total recyclability of the packaging. The third project involves a 4.2 litres cylindrical bucket, certified "MIX ECO plastic", in which 35% of the material used comes from pre-consumer and/or post-consumer waste, while maintaining the container's useful capacity and strength, even when stacked on pallets.

Through these initiatives, Mapei continues a structured path toward reducing the environmental impact of its packaging and products. The results achieved at the Ecopack 2025 competition are in line with the company's other initiatives and the development of increasingly sustainable packaging solutions to support environmentally conscious construction.
