As surely as the late Giorgio Squinzi (and former MAPEI Group CEO) made sport and community involvement an important endeavor for MAPEI, we remain committed to his vision here in Canada. "Never stop pedalling" was the metaphor he often used to describe his approach to life and work. Today, the Squinzi legacy is carried on through the MAPEI family’s proud support of numerous pursuits in amateur sport, including cycling, skiing, ice hockey, and even racing in concrete structures.
Here are some Canadian teams/events that we invite you to root for along with us.
The Toronto Velodrome Club is a made up of a 6-man team of champion cyclists who compete in both road and track events internationally. These Canadian men are World Cup and World Championship medalists who earned qualification to race for Canada in Tokyo at the next Olympic Games, currently slated for 2021.
MAPEI is firmly on the cycling bandwagon with our sponsorship of the St-Joseph Bicycle Racing Team (or Équipe de course Vélo St-Joseph, as they are more commonly known in their native French). They're based in Terrebonne, Québec, and you can follow them online here:
MAPEI is proud to champion the UCI Women's Cycling team, Macogep-Tornatech Girondins de Bordeaux, consisting of eight elite and two junior women cyclists, based in the province of Québec.
The Pierre-Harvey National Training Centre's mission is to help develop Canada's elite cross-country skiers for World Cup competition, and MAPEI is proud to be right alongside them. Based in the mountainside town of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, Québec, they are affiliated with Nordiq Canada.
In a nod to our Italian roots, we at MAPEI are proud to sponsor the Veneto Peewee ice hockey team. They return to Canada every February to compete in the Québec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament, with more than 120 teams participating.
As a leader in concrete admixtures, MAPEI is proud to sponsor our budding engineers in their quest for the fastest concrete canoe for the second straight year. The annual Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition challenges engineering undergrads from various Canadian universities to design, build and finally race their canoes.
Another construction-related activity that MAPEI supports is the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR), celebrating its 46th consecutive year in 2020. Engineering students from across Canada assemble to compete for recognition of the best design and construction.
