MAPEI Canada and the ICFF: together to celebrate Italian-Canadian cinema and culture since 2015

June 22, 2023

Laval, Quebec --  The Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) has grown into more than just a celebration of Italian-Canadian cinema since its inception 11 years ago, now with a broadened focus embracing all facets of the arts. MAPEI Canada knows a thing or two about “bridging” the two cultures (pardon the pun), and we're excited to be a sponsor for a ninth straight year.

This summer's many screenings and events run from June 27th to July 22nd, in five cities - and indeed, all across Canada via the ICFF at Home Festival!

And as a company that makes products for construction, forgive us for being particularly drawn to these two screenings of films focusing on the world of architecture and design:

Alfabeto Mangiarotti
Thursday, July 13 – Trinity Open-air Cinema at Distillery District, Toronto
Tickets available here

Directed by Davide Maffei, this documentary aims to explore the figure of Angelo Mangiarotti within the context of 20th-century Italian design culture, with a particular focus on his attitude and sensitivity towards materials and craftsmanship. Through footage of his architectural works and interviews with his collaborators, clients, and friends, the film delves into the connections and resonances between the various disciplines in which he operated, seeking to reconstruct the depth of his thinking, his strong inclination towards innovation, and the inherent poetry of his creations.

Lina Bo Bardi: A Marvelous Entanglement
Tuesday, July 18 – Spirit Open-air Cinema (backup indoor) at Distillery District, Toronto
Tickets available here

Arguably one of the most important personalities of the 20th century Latin American Modernist architecture movement, Lina Bo Bardi was born in Rome in 1914 and left an extraordinary legacy as an architect, set designer, editor, illustrator, furniture designer, and curator. This film focuses on Bo Bardi’s most iconic buildings and creative projects. Throughout the film, director Isaac Julien highlights Bo Bardi’s work and the lasting impact she had as an artist.

Of course that's just a small taste of what's on the menu. Check out the full schedule here.
