MAPEI’s well-known tradition of supporting sporting activities, especially cycling, combined with its long history of working with designers and planners, fits naturally with its development of solutions for the construction of first-class sporting and recreational facilities. Mapei has developed Mapecoat TNS System for resin playing surfaces, which offers a combination of robustness, durability, comfort, and safety to players. Since its introduction in 2009, the Mapecoat TNS surfacing system has been used in hundreds of facilities across Europe. Its popularity has since spread further afield, including to Australia, a country with a great record of sporting success despite its relatively small population.

The Mapecoat TNS System of coating and finishing products, made from acrylic resins in water dispersion and selected fillers, is used to form playing surfaces for various indoor and outdoor sports and multi- purpose playing areas with high resistance to wear, UV rays and changing weather conditions. The surfaces, which can be moderately or highly elastic to reduce the effect of impact trauma, offer excellent playing comfort and outstanding technical performance characteristics for the bounce of the ball, sudden twists and turns on the run, a fine balance between braking and sliding, and a high degree of safety for athletes.

Mapecat TNS System can be applied on concrete or asphalt substrates, new or old, or on existing resin surfaces. Thus the system is widely used not only for new constructions but also for refurbishments and upgrades. The primary systems available from the Mapecoat TNS System range are:

  • Mapecoat TNS Professional - a multi- layered system made from acrylic resin in water dispersion for professional indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
  • Mapecoat TNS Cushion - a medium- elasticity, multi-layered system made from acrylic resin in waterdispersion for professional indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
  • Mapecoat TNS Comfort - a high- elasticity, multi-layered system made from acrylic resin in water dispersion used in combination with granular rubber matting for professional indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
  • Mapecoat TNS Multisport Professional - a multi-layered system made from acrylic resin in water dispersion for indoor and outdoor multi-purpose sports courts and pitches.
  • Mapecoat TNS Multisport Comfort -a high-elasticity, multi-layered system made from acrylic resin in water dispersion used in combination with granular rubber matting for indoor and outdoor multi-purpose sports courts and pitches.
  • Mapecoat TNS Urban - an acrylic resin- based coloured coating in water dispersion with selected fillers for coating cycle tracks, footpaths and urban features.

Mapecoat TNS Systems and finishing coats for tennis courts have received  ITF (International Tennis Federation) certification for playing surfaces ranging from court pace 1 (slow) through to 4 (medium fast). These ratings help owners and planners select the system most suited to their requirements. (The ratings can be verified on the ITF’s website at http://www. itftennis.com under “Technical”.)

MAPEI also offers solutions in elastic polyurethane resin for indoor and outdoor playing surfaces on old or new concrete and asphalt substrates. These PU systems similarly offer true playing surfaces, comfort and safety, durability, and good resistance to weather conditions.
