Commitment in Sustainability in partnership with Malaysia Green Building Council (MGBC)

16^th January – MAPEI Malaysia partnering with Malaysia Green Building Council to host a seminar under the theme LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS & THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE BUILDING MATERIALS.

Mikaela Decio, Corporate Environmental Sustainability Manager for MAPEI S.P.A, delivered an impactful presentation that highlighted the company’s committed approaches to carbon offsetting and sustainability.

Decio outlined MAPEI’s comprehensive strategy for reducing environmental impacts, emphasizing key initiatives that set the company apart as a sustainability leader in the construction sector.

Key Highlights from the Presentation:

1. CO₂ Offset Calculation
   MAPEI employs meticulous methodologies to calculate the CO₂ emissions generated by its products, ensuring transparency and accountability in its sustainability efforts.
2. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
   MAPEI products undergo rigorous Life Cycle Assessments to evaluate their environmental impacts across all phases of their lifecycle, from “cradle to grave”.
3. Verification and Certification
   The results of these LCAs are independently verified by qualified external bodies. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) issued for MAPEI products meets stringent ISO and EN standards, affirming their environmental credibility.
4. Carbon Credits and Biodiversity Protection
   Following LCA and EPD certification, MAPEI reinvests a portion of its product revenues to purchase carbon credits. These credits directly fund certified reforestation and biodiversity protection projects, reinforcing MAPEI’s commitment to offsetting carbon emissions.

Excellent topics were also delivered by other invited speakers in line with the theme such as Ar. (Dr.) Serina Hijjas the President of Malaysia Green Building Council, and Ar. Sarly Adre Sarkum, past President of Malaysia Green Building Council.

This seminar served as a powerful platform to promote awareness and action on sustainability among stakeholders in Malaysia’s building industry. By showcasing MAPEI’s initiatives, the event aimed to inspire professionals to take their first steps toward carbon offsetting and environmental stewardship.
