MAPEI wins twice at TTMAC 2020 Hardsurface Awards

November 23, 2020

Laval, Quebec – MAPEI Inc. is pleased to announce that two of its project entries were winners at this year’s TTMAC Hardsurface Awards. MAPEI’s contribution to the new-build Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, was recognized as the best project entered in the “Manufactured Tile” category. MAPEI was also awarded in the “Restoration” category for the Delta Hotels indoor pool renovation in Ottawa, Ontario.

Founded in 1944, the Terrazzo Tile & Marble Association of Canada (TTMAC) annually hands out awards recognizing excellence in major construction projects across Canada. As in previous years, MAPEI’s contributions made a significant impact with TTMAC representatives.

Under the eye of MAPEI coordinator Paul André Babin, the 9,000-capacity Avenir Centre sports and concerts facility was built from the ground up using over a dozen MAPEI products, including over 76,000 square feet (7 061 m²) of Ultracolor® Plus FA rapid-setting grout. Thanks go to MAPEI distributor Jim Buchanan at Prosol Inc. (Moncton), Bob Preston and the late Raven Spanier at Stantec Architecture Ltd., Paul Babineau at FRS Flooring Solutions (Dieppe) and the City of Moncton, New Brunswick, for their important contributions that made the project such a grand success. Leaks from the 50-year-old indoor swimming pool at Delta Hotels Ottawa City Centre were becoming a nuisance to keep up with, so the hotel’s management decided to repair the underlying concrete and waterproofing system while updating the pool area with a new, modernized look. Thanks go to Justin Richard and Urbano’s installing crew, who worked with MAPEI distributor Prosol and MAPEI’s Justin Lafontaine. 10 different MAPEI products were used to complete the saltwater-pool restoration project in less than five months. Crew members repaired and retiled the 10,000-square-foot (929-m²) area from the pool bed to the ceiling. MAPEI wishes to thank the TTMAC for the recognition and for all that they do to support the industry, and wishes to express its pleasure of being a part of 2020’s virtual awards.

About TTMAC

The TTMAC was founded in 1944. Its mandate was to develop a method of standardizing terrazzo, tile and marble installation techniques, as well as be a technical resource and liaison for architects, specifiers, designers and engineers. TTMAC honors this commitment today as well as many other services and support of the hardsurface industry and its members.

TTMAC members are dedicated, hard-working individuals who have spent many hours and years to ensure that the integrity of the industry is preserved. Nothing can be more apparent of this fact than the accomplishments achieved and the recognition of involvement in the majority of construction projects across Canada.

Much like the product it represents, the TTMAC stands for quality. Its membership is comprised of contractors and suppliers who are closely scrutinized for experience, integrity and financial stability. The construction industry can be confident that those members belonging to the TTMAC are competent and experienced providers of products and services for the terrazzo, tile, marble and stone industry.
