The multi-million-pound refit included major changes with the airport’s check-in, security and departure areas, with the addition of a new landside Skybar and cafe alongside ‘World Duty Free’.
Works by Ian Costello Tiling spanned the 1,860 sq. ft retail area and included installation of granite tiles. During preparation of the subfloor, Mapeguard UM 35 – a waterproofing, uncoupling and anti-fracture membrane – was applied between two applications of adhesive, to accommodate potential stresses and enhance bond strength. Fibre-reinforced screed, Mapei Ultraplan Renovation Screed 3240 was used to level subfloors and tiles were fixed with Mapei Granirapid – a rapid-drying cementitious adhesive designed for fast-track installations and particularly suited to heavy traffic environments. The installation was completed with Mapei Ultracolor Plus - an anti-efflorescence, quick-setting and drying polymer-modified grout, featuring water-repellent DropEffect® and mould-resistant BioBlock® - and Mapesil AC mould-resistant silicone sealant. |
