On Wednesday, June 5, MAPEI proudly participated in the AEC Cares “Blitz Build” event to renovate the Residential Empowerment Adolescent Community Home (REACH) at Sasha Bruce Youthwork in Washington, D.C. Located in the historic Barracks Row community of Capitol Hill, REACH provides critical support and services to at-risk youth in the area.
More than 100 volunteers, including MAPEI colleagues, gathered to rejuvenate the REACH residence, demonstrating a powerful commitment to community service and collaboration. The “Blitz Build” brought together professionals from architecture, engineering and construction – all united by a shared goal of making a positive impact on the lives of young people.
Throughout the day, volunteers worked tirelessly to refresh and revitalize the home. The renovations included painting, landscaping and various structural improvements that are designed to enhance the living environment for residents.
According to Gina Cordoba, MAPEI’s Tradeshow Coordinator who was one of MAPEI’s seven volunteers, “We worked in the six bedrooms of a double row house, which was over 200 years old. We taped off for painting; worked on the feature walls in the bedrooms – following a diagram, using liquid nails to attach reclaimed wood to the walls, followed by using the nail gun, then caulking, priming and painting the walls; cleaned up; and staged the rooms with new beds, dressers and bedding.”
In addition to manpower, MAPEI also sponsored a breakfast of muffins, bananas and coffee. Also, several MAPEI-branded items were provided. Cordoba stated, “I brought MAPEI safety googles, gloves, hats and shirts, which everyone loved!”
MAPEI’s involvement in the “Blitz Build” reflects the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and community engagement. By partnering with AEC Cares and Sasha Bruce Youthwork, MAPEI aims to support organizations that provide essential services to vulnerable populations, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment.
Sasha Bruce Youthwork is a leading nonprofit organization that offers a range of programs for homeless and disconnected youth in the Washington, D.C., area. The REACH residence plays a crucial role in Sasha Bruce Youthwork’s mission, providing a safe and supportive environment for adolescents to thrive.
The success of the “Blitz Build” at REACH is a testament to the power of collaboration and community spirit. MAPEI is honored to have been a part of this transformative project and looks forward to continuing its support for initiatives that make a lasting difference in the lives of those in need.
