Other	THE Klang Valley MRT is a rail-based network which, together with other existing services, will form the backbone of the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley public transport system centred in Kuala Lumpur. Construction of the 51 km first line from Sungai Buloh to Kajang was officially launched on 8 July 2011. The line serves a corridor with an estimated population of 1.2 million people and is expected to be operational by July 2017. The major part of the above-ground line is elevated on viaducts (guideways) to avoid built-up areas. Construction is split into packages V1 to V8 and awarded to eight separate contractors. The specifications ask for the piers and girder segments to be provided with a protective coating system. MAPEI and all competitor suppliers were required to submit materials for testing on site and at independent labs. For the repair mortar, Planitop 130, and the coating, Colorite Performance S-MY, application was done on site and tested for tensile adhesion. MAPEI and all competitor suppliers were required to send coating materials to independent labs for testing of the following properties: carbon dioxide diffusion water vapour diffusion chloride diffusion wet and dry film thicknesses All MAPEI results passed the specified values and we were selected for two of the packages, V1 and V4 requiring approximately 500,000 m2 of repairs & coatings.
