Mapei, the world's leading manufacturer of construction chemicals, is strengthening its presence in the UK with the opening of a new plant in Speke, near Liverpool.

The Italian multinational is thus continuing its international expansion strategy, which since the beginning of the year has seen it announce openings or acquisitions of new plants in Denmark, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Italy and Portugal.

Dedicated to the production of concrete admixtures for the local market, the new Speke plant is located on a 3,200 m² site which, in addition to offices and a warehouse, includes research laboratories.

It is Mapei's second site in the UK after the one in Halesowen, near Birmingham, which is also home to the Mapei Academy, Mapei's training offering through free events aimed at professionals and businesses.

"Mapei UK was founded in 1989, in Middlesbrough - states Veronica Squinzi, Mapei CEO - Today, also thanks to the local production capacity, we are market leader in products for the installation of ceramic and stone materials. Consistent with our internationalisation strategy, we want to continue to strengthen our presence in this country by seizing every opportunity that allows us to grow responsibly".

"We will thus introduce, also in the UK, our innovative solutions that can help the concrete industry to maintain high quality standards, reducing the climate impact both in the construction of large works and in residential construction".

Mapei UK, which employs 360 people in the country, also has three warehouses in the West Midlands that supply distributors throughout the UK and Ireland.
