Mapei at Cop28

 Mapei took part in several panels at the United Nations Climate Change Conference Cop28 staged from 30^th November-12^th December in Dubai.

Mapei, which has been operating though an operating plant in Dubai for over ten years, , made its own contribution to the debate through Mikaela Decio, Corporate Environmental Sustainability Manager of Mapei, who put forward some concrete examples of the company’s commitment to increasingly sustainable building.

On Wednesday 6^th December, Mikaela Decio took part in a workshop entitled 'Sustainab-Italy: Italian proposals for a greener future’ promoted by the ICE Agency that was held in the Italian Pavilion at Expo Dubai.

Mapei's own experience was presented along other leading Italian players involved in the ecological transition under way in the field of renewable energy, waste management, sustainable building and cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises. Debate significantly focused on Mapei's experience was presented among the Italian excellences in the ecological transition in the field of renewable energy, waste management, sustainable building and working partnerships with small and medium-sized enterprises. In particular, it was discussed how Mapei has helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by taking action both within its own organisation – like for instance at its Dubai plant where solar panels have been installed to increase energy efficiency - and on its products. Finally, the subject of CO₂ offsetting was addressed, which is now at the focus of Mapei's Zero line, where product emissions are all completely offset.

In specific relation to Expo Dubai 2020, Mapei has designed new materials for the Italian Pavilion from natural, recycled and regional elements and supplied products with fully compensated residual CO₂ emissions. To measure the environmental impact of its products, it uses the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, whose results are checked, reported and published in certified documents, so-called Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).

The Italian Pavilion also hosted a conference organised by Intesa San Paolo entitled the 'Circular Economy & Climate Change: the role of financial institutions and the private sector in accelerating the transition towards a regenerative economy'. On Sunday 10^th December, Mikaela Decio talked about how work is being carried out in the Research & Development laboratories to reduce the carbon footprint of product formulas to make high- quality and sustainable products from recycled materials. With a view to circularity and the life cycle of manufactured products, Mapei's contribution focused on admixtures for concrete from the Mapecube range, which enable the manufacture of product mixtures with reduced CO₂ emissions.
