Mapei boosts its operations in Italy through a new plant in Bari

This will be the multinational’s first manufacturing plant in South Italy

February 12, 2024
Mapei, a leading manufacturer of chemical products for the building industry, is expanding its operations in Italy by acquiring a 20,000 m2 plot of land in Modugno on the outskirts of Bari, where a new plant will be built for manufacturing its main products, everything from adhesives for installing ceramic tiles to mortars, admixtures and paints. In the wake of Robbiano di Mediglia (Milan), where the group's largest plant is located, and Latina, the company has chosen the capital of Apulia for opening its first plant in southern Italy. An investment that confirms Mapei's intention to grow in Italy, boosting its operations in the country.

This will enable the company to work more closely with its clients and the whole supply chain, improving logistic efficiency and, at the same time, reducing its CO2 footprint due to transport. Modugno is, in fact, located in a rapidly developing area with a strategic geographical/commercial position that is ideal for serving the southern Italian market and for exports to countries bordering on the Adriatic Sea. The new plant will, at least initially, employ around 70 staff, a figure destined to increase over time.

"Over the years we have kept on believing in ourselves and investing in upgrading existing plants and acquiring new ones, so we can meet the needs of local markets - so Marco Squinzi stated, Mapei’s CEO -. The opening of a new plant in Bari will enable us to grow and boost our operations in our own country. We will be able to manufacture in southern Italy, where numerous infrastructural and residential projects are already underway or in the pipeline. Hopefully we will be able to contribute to these projects thanks to the high standard and innovative qualities of our products".

"We are a solid Group, always looking to the future – so Veronica Squinzi added, Mapei’s CEO - guided by a balanced strategy of organic growth and acquisitions. Mapei is now recognised worldwide as an example of a modern company supplying a wide range of innovative products that respect the environment and people’s safety. We are very happy to be able to bring this expertise to the new plant, which will be built in Bari, and to contribute to improving people’s lives and developing the territory".

Mapei, which has boosted its business operations in southern Italy over the years thanks to a highly efficient and qualified sales network, has very special ties with the Apulia region where it first opened a business branch in Lecce in 2007. It also has a showroom for designers and construction companies and an Academy, which has become a focal point for training operations right across the whole region thanks to its close working relations with local business associations.

Mapei also has very special ties with the city of Bari, where it was a technical partner on the project to renovate Petruzzelli Theatre after it was damaged by a serious fire. It provided support in the form of its research and development laboratories and technicians also selecting and supplying the most innovative products and solutions for solving issues that emerged during the various stages in renovation.
