Club Atlético Lanús has won the Copa Sudamericana, the second most prestigious competition in South American football, following a memorable final. The Argentine club, sponsored by Mapei, defeated Atlético Mineiro on 22 November at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción, Paraguay, claiming the title on penalties with a dramatic 5-4 scoreline after 120 minutes of regulation time ended in a balanced 0-0 draw.

Lanús, one of the most popular clubs in Argentina, plays in the Primera División, the equivalent of the Italian Serie A, and is based in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. Interestingly, Diego Armando Maradona was born in Lanús on 30 October 1960, although he never played for the team. This victory represents the club's second Copa Sudamericana title in its history, following the triumphant success of 2013.

The club boasts an impressive list of honours: two national titles, a Bicentennial Cup and an Argentine Cup. At international level, it has won a Copa Sudamericana (2013) and a Copa Conmebol (1997), competitions comparable to the Europa League. With today's success, Granate adds a second Copa Sudamericana to its international trophy collection, consolidating its status among the great powerhouses of South American football.

Thanks to this victory, the club will participate in the 2026 Copa Libertadores (the South American equivalent of the Champions League) with direct access to the group stage, one of the highest achievements in South American football. Furthermore, Granate will have the right to contest the Recopa Sudamericana against the winner of the current Copa Libertadores. An additional opportunity to continue building the recent history of the club.

Mapei, which has always been close to the world of sport, shares with football fundamental values such as passion, teamwork and tenacity. Present in Argentina since 1999 with a factory in Escobar, in the province of Buenos Aires, the company has been the main sponsor of Club Atlético Lanús since 2020. This is the second Copa Sudamericana final played with Mapei alongside the team, and the first title achieved together—a symbolic closure of a circle and a testament to a partnership that continues to grow and harvest success on the international football stage.
