With the growing diversity of today's options in tile and stone, understanding that a “one size fits all” approach can be costly is critical and has never been more important. While not all tile or stone needs to be sealed or pre-treated before installation, the everyday issues that are faced by tile and stone contractors pose constant challenges. Among them is the potential for grout-staining and/or hazing issues that cost time and money and that were never considered in the bid and bottom line. Other related consequences are overwatering grout to make it easier to float, as well as overwashing grout to remove hazing that can lead to grout discoloration and low joints. Microtexture on some porcelain tile can prove timely and costly if not considered before grouting. MAPEI’s UltraCare line of sealers, cleaners and problem-solvers can help with these challenges.
