Mapei sets a new record: a tennis court on Mont Blanc for the highest match in the world

Tennis players Jasmine Paolini and Liudmila Samsonova face off in a match at an altitude of 3,446 metres with an exceptional view
October 26, 2021

Just a few metres from the summit of Mont Blanc, at an altitude of 3,466 metres, Jasmine Paolini and Liudmila Samsonova played a record-breaking friendly match on a mini Mapei court. This was, in fact, the highest tennis match in the world: the previous record was held by champions Roger Federer and Lindsay Vonn.

Mapei contributed to this spectacular event by providing its innovative technology. The highest tennis court in the world was built using MAPECOAT TNS REMOVE, a multi-layer system based on water-dispersed acrylic resins and selected fillers, combined with a self-laying fibre-reinforced PVC mat thermally bonded to a non-woven fabric. Applied to the surfaces, it ensures optimal technical and playing performance: controlled ball bounce and quick, safe changes of direction, with a good balance between grip and slip for players.

Immersed in an exceptional setting – at the summit of the SkyWay Monte Bianco – Paolini and Samsonova took a break from the sporting competition that sees them engaged in the WTA Courmayeur Ladies Open tournament, which is being played on four courts made with MAPECOAT TNS products by MAPEI.

The main court of the Courmayeur Ladies Open tournament was built using the MAPECOAT TNS REMOVE system, while the other playing surfaces were resinated with products from the MAPECOAT TNS PROFESSIONAL system on existing PVC courts. The finishing product MAPECOAT TNS FINISH 3 has been used on all courts. The ball bounce is uniform across all surfaces thanks to Mapei technology and is also guaranteed on the playing lines thanks to the use of MAPECOAT TNS LINE TEX.
